Now On Air

Local Events

Hear legendary rock artist Lou Reed recorded live, in a full concert from Asbury Park's Paramount Theatre in New Jersey on NPR.org. Reed performed for more than a hour and a half, featuring work from throughout his catalog, including "Sweet Jane" from The Velvet Underground, more recent work like "Guardian Angel" from The Raven and a new song called "Power of the Heart." It's the latest in a series of live concerts from NPR's All Songs Considered.

KUNI Program Highlights & More!

KUNI Signal Outages:

5/15/08:
KUNI 90.9 FM will be off the air during the day beginning Friday, May 16 through Friday, May 23 for tower repairs and equipment replacement. This affects not only the KUNI coverage area (Cedar Falls/Waterloo/Cedar Rapids/Iowa City) but the KUNI-fed stations in Mitchellville, Des Moines, Dubuque and the Quad Cities. A major portion of our FM news service is unavailable in central and eastern Iowa as a result. During this maintenance period, you can still hear KUNI's programming online via its live web stream. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

IPR Ottumwa Station Launch Delayed

The official launch of KDWI 89.1 FM in Ottumwa has been delayed due to technical issues. KDWI is operational but has not received final FCC approval. Once the station was up and running, we were able to test it and discovered that it doesn't deliver 100% of the coverage area we originally projected. We are now working on a technical adjustment that will expand the coverage area by approximately 4% and enable the FCC to give us that final approval so we can begin broadcasting. We are confident that we'll be able to make the necessary technical adjustments in the next few months and begin broadcasting on the second station serving Ottumwa, Oskaloosa and Fairfield. We are required by the FCC to have this second station on the air by June 2010. Read original press release.

New Talk Show Debuts on IPR News Network:

Iowa Public Radio introduced a new local talk show on the News network called Talk@12, hosted by Katherine Perkins. This show has grown out of two programs that preceded it on AM 640 in central Iowa: Talk of Iowa and Midday. Many of the segments from Talk of Iowa and Midday will be integrated into the new program: Doug Cooper’s agri-business analysis, the knowledge of ISU Extension experts, listener favorites like the Horticulture Gang, Jim Pease, Steffen Schmidt and Climatologist Elwynn Taylor. And we’re very happy that, for the first time, these experts and guests will now be available to our listeners statewide. Talk@12 airs weekdays at noon on the IPR News network. Read more.

We play any style from Polka to Punk, Blues to Speed Metal, Folk to Funk. We play from cassette tape, compact disc, CDR, digital audio tape, and vinyl. Send your music to: Down on the Corner; KUNI 90.9 FM; 3rd Floor, CAC; Cedar Falls, IA 50614
