Iowa Gubernatorial Race:

KUNI Gubernatorial Forum
Three of the four Democratic candidates for governor will participate in a unique candidate forum on KUNI. The live broadcast is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, 2006 from noon to 1:00 p.m.

The candidates will ask each other questions. Mike Blouin, Ed Fallon and Sal Mohamed have accepted KUNI’s invitation.

Cedar Rapids Gazette/KCRG-TV Gubernatorial Forum
With less than six weeks to go before the June 6 primary, the Democratic candidates for governor continue to define and clarify their positions on a wide range of issues. The forum took place on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.

Gubernatorial Forum on Energy
KUNI, The Iowa Renewable Energy Association, and the University of Northern Iowa’s Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE) hosted the Saturday, January 21, 2006 forum at 1:00 p.m. at the CEEE.

Seven candidates agreed to provide us with a short and long term energy vision for Iowa. Guests include Bob Vander Plaats, Patty Judge, Chet Culver, Sal Mohamed, Mike Blouin, Vernon Weems, and Ed Fallon. Each candidate was given six minutes to share his or her energy vision. Each candidate was asked two questions from Iowa Renewable Energy Association Board Members. The candidates were given one minute to answer each question.

This event was recorded and then broadcast Sunday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m. on KUNI.

Citizen Action Forum
Iowa gubernatorial candidates continue to try and set themselves apart from the field. Five democrats participated in a forum Saturday night, January 14, 2006 including Sal Mohamed, Representative Ed Fallon, Secretary of State Chet Culver, Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge and Vernon Weems. Iowa Public Radio's Greg Shanley reports the focus was on four issues including healthcare.

Seventeen organizations led by the Iowa Citizen Action Network Education Foundation hosted Saturday night's event at the state historical building in Des Moines. Iowa citizens shared personal stories and the candidates were asked to respond.

AFSCME Gubernatorial Forum
The endorsement process for governor for the union that represents approximately 20,000 state workers is underway. Iowa Public Radio's Greg Shanley reports about 200 members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union (or AFSCME) attended a gubernatorial forum in Newton.

The candidates running for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture participated in a forum Tuesday, October 31. The live one-hour Iowa Public Radio broadcast featured Democratic candidate Denise O'Brien and Republican Bill Northey.

KUNI Secretary of Agriculture Candidate Forum
KUNI will host a forum for Republican and Democratic candidates seeking their party’s nomination for Secretary of Agriculture. The live forum from the Press Room at the Statehouse will be held Friday, May 26, 2006.

Democratic candidates Denise O’Brien of Atlantic and Dusky Terry of Greenfield will be on from noon until 1:00 p.m. Republicans Mark Leonard of Holstein and Bill Northey of Spirit Lake will be featured from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. KUNI Des Moines Bureau Chief Jeneane Beck will moderate the forum. The panel of reporters is made up of Gene Lucht, Political/Public Affairs Editor with Iowa Farmer Today; Anne Fitzgerald, Agribusiness Writer with the Des Moines Register; and Jean Caspers-Simmet, Senior Reporter with Agri-News.

The candidates running for Congress from Iowa's Fourth District participated in a forum Wednesday, October 11. The live, one-hour Iowa Public Radio broadcast featured Republican incumbent Tom Latham and Democrat Selden Spencer.

KUNI Second Congressional District Candidate Forum
A forum featuring the Congressional candidates in Iowa’s Second District is set for Monday, October 2 at 10:00 a.m. The one-hour live broadcast on Iowa Public Radio KUNI features Republican Jim Leach and Democrat Dave Loebsack.
 

First Congressional District Race:

First Congressional District Education Forum
An education forum was held on Wednesday, May 17 in Waterloo. All four of the Democratic candidates for Iowa's First Congressional District took part. Two of the three Republican candidates participated as well. Mike Whalen had a scheduling conflict and could not participate.

KUNI First Congressional District Candidate Forum
Join KUNI for a live two-hour broadcast on Friday, April 24 at noon for a forum with the Republican and Democratic candidates for Iowa's First Congressional District.
The Republican candidates will be featured from noon until 1:00 p.m., and the Democratic candidates will be featured from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Republican candidates participating include Bill Dix, Brian Kennedy and Mike Whalen. Democratic candidates participating include Bruce Braley, Rick Dickinson, Bill Gluba and Denny Heath. The moderator for the forum will be KUNI senior news producer Pat Blank. Panelists include Dubuque Telegraph Herald political reporter Mary Rae Bragg, Quad City Times political reporter Ed Tibbetts, and KUNI news director Greg Shanley.
