KUNI/IPR News Wins Awards
KUNI/Iowa Public Radio News has won four awards from two prestigious news
associations. The Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA)
presented its 2007 Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for News Documentary
(small market) to Jeneane Beck for her documentary on Child Abuse
Investigations in Iowa. The documentary aired in December, 2006 on Iowa
Public Radio. As a regional award winner, Beck's documentary is
automatically submitted for the national Murrow Awards, to be announced
in June.

KUNI/Iowa Public Radio is also the recipient of three awards from the
Northwest Broadcast News Association (NBNA). In the Association's 2006
Radio and TV Sevareid Awards, KUNI/Iowa Public Radio won in the
Investigative category for Jeneane Beck's stories on Laboratory Waste
Disposal at Iowa State University; Beck was also given an Award of
Merit in the Documentary/Special category for her documentary on Child
Abuse Investigations. KUNI/Iowa Public Radio also took an Award of Merit in
the Newscast category. (Thanks to our friends at WVIK, Rock Island, for
contributing to the Laboratory Waste Disposal newscast!)
The RTNDA is the world's largest professional organization devoted
exclusively to electronic journalism. The NBNA represents broadcast
professionals, students and teachers in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota,
North Dakota and South Dakota. This marks the first year that Iowa
Public Radio submitted stories for judging in the large market
category.
Iowa Public Radio Executive Director Cindy Browne said, "These
awards represent recognition from our peers of the fine work of our
news team. This is the first year we entered as a unified organization,
and despite facing more intense competition from larger news
organizations like Minnesota Public Radio, our team's work shone
through."
